BACKGROUND
The location of the application site is outlined in red below. A new residential development is being proposed on the land to the west of Old Street, Stubbington.

You will probably recall that this site was subject to a previous application for up to 160 homes that was revised to 150 homes and then dismissed at appeal in 2019.
A thorough review of the technical considerations raised in the Appeal Decision, has meant a reduction in the number of proposed dwellings from 150 homes to 70 homes, with consideration to the highways (including access design), impact on Meon Valley landscape, impact on the setting of Great Crabthorn, ecology and drainage.
Compared to the previous scheme for up to 150 homes with a net development area of 6.6 hectares, the current proposal for up to 70 dwellings has been significantly reduced to ensure that no housing development occurs on the valley slope. This provides a reduced net development area of 2.3 hectares, leaving 8.2 hectares for Natural Green Space, Bird Mitigation and Publicly Accessible Open Space.
